Hello to all you Hensmans out there. I'm amazed there are so many!!
I've not done any tracing of the family tree, but my Father, now deceased was Frederick Charles William Hensman, & his father's side of the family came from Bishop's Stortford & moved to London in circa 1890. I have heard that Hensman is a corruption of Henchman & that they originated in Austria.

Hello My Fellow Hensman's.
I am James hensman, son of Jack Hensman. We lived in Toton/Nottingham until his death in 1989. My dad was one of many brothers, Roy (married to Flo) who lived in Havant/Portsmouth, Charlie (married to Hazel) who lived in Gamlingay/Cambridge, Bob (married to Shirley) who lived in Chigwell Row/London, and Maurice who lived in London. He was known as 'Son'. He spent some time in a POW camp as he was captured at Tobruk during WWII.
My dads father came from Boston, as by brother John has a photo of a shop 'F Hensman'. If anyone wants to know a little more, I will try to help. I will monitor replys to this thread. If you search on James Hensman, you can find a picture at one of my previous employments.
cheers
James William Hensman (B.1970)

Hi there.
My name is Caroline Patricia; born in Bedford, England. I am the daughter of Andrew Thomas; born in Northhamptonshire. My grandfather John Hensman was also from Northhamptonshire but I never met him since he died before I was born.
I now live in America and have discovered there are many other Hensmans here. I'm not sure if my branch of the family is related, especially since many surnames were changed during the great immigration.
I know some of my family history. I know that we came from Bozeat, Northants area & before that either Germany or Austria. I'm not sure when we immigrated from that are, but I know our name was changed from HENCHMAN to HENSMAN over the years. I know that one of my direct ancestors was named Humphrey Henchman and he was once the bishop of Salsbury Cathedral & St Pauls Cathedral in London. If I'm correct, he was the bishop during the great London Fire in 1666 and had some input on the newly designed church & rebuild.
I also know that my family was tied very closely to the english royal family during the revolution against the french.
Anyone that has anyother information or is related to the Hensman's of Bedford/Northhamptonshire please contact me.
Sincerely,
Caroline Patricia Hensman (b. 1984)

[Hello, I am not a Hensman but I have a Bible belonging to the Hensman/Heycock family which includes providence from 1866 and a death certificate for Mary Jane Heycock. I was going to put it on Ebay but thought I'd look up the name first. Pat Trussell./quote]

Hi,
I am researching the Hensman's of Bedfordshire - Mostly Ampthill
Some of the names I have so far are George, John, Jessie, Beatrice, Wyn, Joyce, Hilda, Eliza, Alfred, Ada, Henry, William, Mary Ann, Lucy, Emily, Charles, Rose, Albert.
Many of the men were working as gas-fitters on the railway, engineers and a couple were Wheelwrights.
If anyone has any connection here, let me know and we can exchange info
Thanks
Mary

Hello there,
This is probably a bit wide of the mark but I am doing research on the watercolour painter, Hugh Williams [1773-1829]. I now suspect that he may have married Louisa Hensman on 1 July 1798 at Old St. Pancras Church in London. He may at that time have been working in the theatre, doing scene painting and some acting and he and his new wife also made costumes.
I would like to make contact with anyone who knows about Louisa and her family.
If you would like to see some of my work on Williams see my website:

Cheers,

Hi Andrew,
did you ever start the Hensman family web page or did it get lost in time?
I have read the message you posted on UK villages online many times and have waited for information, I am looking into my husbands line of Hensmans, and would be interested in any information that you have.
I realise that it is very time consuming and that you posted the message a long time ago.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Sue Hensman.

Hello everyone,
I live in France, my surnam is now Calazel
My family is not actually from Pytchley, but my ancestors located in Kimbolton
have been discussed in this group, which I have scrupulously read from
beginning to end !
I would be most pleased to know whether the HENSMAN website has finally
been set up ? I can't seem to find anything, but as I live in France, perhaps
I've missed it somewhere ?
I've been in (phone/letter) contact with Ed from Australia, my g-great-uncle,
but no news for the last couple of years.... he lives (or lived) in WHITTINTON
My branch = Boswell Hensman
Any other of us Hensies who are about reading this message can contact me
on : (myfirstname given below) dot (mylastname given on first
line) at (wanadoo)dot(fr) first removing spaces and brackets of course !!!
Best to all my cousins

What a wonderful site, even though it's taken me ages to find it! Who says Hensmans do things quickly. It's nice to see so many Hensmans throughout the world, in the mid 1960s there were only 4 listed in the Bedford, England telephone directory- my father, grandfather, greataunt and my father's cousin. I am replying mainly to the responses from Andy (#8), Elise Drake-Hensman (#24) and Caroline (#49) who I believe to be my brother, sister-in-law, and niece respectively.
I was born in 1957 at Manor Farm, Felmersham, Bedfordshire youngest son of John Thomas (b13 Sept 1915 also at Manor Farm) and Mary Elizabeth (b16 Aug 1918 at Clapham). I have 1 sister (Elizabeth Jane b1948) and 2 brothers (Philip John b1953 & Andrew Thomas b1955). Jane lives in Bedford, Philip in Cambridge while I live in Plymouth, all England. It seems that the Hensman clan seems to enjoy separating. Jane and Philip have no issue while Andrew has Caroline and Thomas and I have 2 daughters George and Aleanda.
My father, John Thomas (Tom) had 2 sisters, Elizabeth Mary (Betty) and Dorothy (Timmy) all of whom are deceased. My paternal grandfather, John Duncombe (from his mother's name) had 1 sister, Lilian Jane and 2 brothers, George and William. William in turn had a daughter, Beatrice Molly. At one time John, William and George all owned Manor Farms at Felmersham, Lavendon, Bucks and Quinton, Northants respectively and all were churchwardens at their local churches. We are also linked to the Hensmans of Bozeat who were also farmers and churchwardens. Much of this history may be found in the chapter
A Churchwarden Family
in the book about Bozeat history which I cannot at the moment recall. There is a Hensman Lane in Bozeat and a Hensmans Close in Felmersham.
Earlier ancestors do include Humphrey Henchman as Bishop of Salisbury 1660-63, believed to have been granted this for aiding Charles II escape to France, and also Bishop of London 1664-67, during the Plague and Great Fire. He is buried in Fulham churchyard.
I hope this snippet is of some use and I cordially invite any interested parties to contact me on
TmHensman@aol.com
. Many thanks
Tim Hensman

Hi Hensmans
My bro started this thread some time back and we have now got to the stage of our own website
www.hensman.net for the 'Hensman Family Network', its only got our coat of arms there just now and we will be building more as time progresses but this is for us, the Hensmans world wide, so tell us what you want on the website and we will see what we can do; for now email me with your ideas and suggestions at mike@hensman.net and in time we will build the ultimate Hensman family website.
Regards
Mike Hensman
