Here  we are - winter again.  A few days snow and frost and we have gaping, tyre puncturing holes in the roads again.  Mostly these are where 3rd rate repairs have been previously completed, where a dollop of tarmac is whacked in rather than a decent repair that will last.

Typical local authority false economy.

There are several in the road from the A14 into the village that are dangerous and on the road to kettering past the golf lodge.

Call the council and all you get is the road has been inspected in the last six months so your expensive alloy and tyre that you have just destroyed is your problem!

As ever the gritter has made possibly a couple of passes through the High Street which usually is lethal.  The grit bins were empty and what does the council say..."it's winter and we are trying to keep them filled"  Maybe there should be more bins?

We pay a disproportionate amount in rates for the services we receive in this village.  It would be nice to think we could get some value for money.  Why oh why was Butchers Lane and the layby resurfaced when the oter "main" roads into and out of the village remain in such a parlous state?

Is it time to take a stance as a village and seek some positive improvements in Pytchley?  We are as likely as not facing a precept charge to make up some of the shortfalls in standards that have built up over the years.  The biggest expenses faced by the village from its funding are the council clerk and the church light?   According to the November minutes, the clerk costs could be around 60% of the £3750 grant from the council.

Does anyone else in Pytchley have a view on the state of the roads and how we might best make some progress in 2010 to improving tha standard and the general state of the village.

The best way to improve the state of the village is to stop all the through traffic using Pytchley as a rat run to the A43 and to Tesco's.

Most of the damage caused by this cold weather is a result of the road being worn out by the huge traffic volumes we are experiencing. The roads here are unclassified and not fit for the purpose.

They are also not safe in this weather, there were two accidents yesterday on Kettering Road to my knowledge, the last one involved three cars and caused the police to close the road completely.
