"So, Hunter, I invite you to continue this debate by staying on-topic. I would be interested in hearing/reading your views on why fox hunting should continue other than the 'tradition' argument. Tell me more about what is involved in a hunt and what benefits it has and whether you think those benefits outweigh the negative of causing distress to foxes."
I would be most interested to know your answers to the questions (posed by greenleaf and quoted above) since you appeared to have (not so) cunningly avoided answering them. (are you, perchance, a politician?)

Not a politician - just enjoy the sport - you should try it. Sorry you feel my earlier reply was not "on topic"
Really not prepared to say much more - I just find it amazing that the people who have not tried it can be so vociferous.
Why don't we get more of an argument against other than just "it's cruel" So is fishing, shooting and death on the roads!
Found your signature of the twisted lip interesting!!

no i havn`t, you`re correct. i`m no stranger to horseback, but hunting doesn`t really hold any appeal for me.
i do enjoy the debate, however.
thanks! i love my sig.!!

Why haven't you tried it - why doesn't it appeal?
Do you feel able to comment fairly without the experience?
Would you like to try it? The thrill of the chase (more often without success) The jump into the blue yonder. The cameraderie and (of course) the sheer tradition of it all.
Why not give it ago - if nothing else a damned good ride!

apart from lack of opportunity i `m rather squeamish about blood, gore and dead things. i`m not averse to a "damned good ride" though and i`m sure i would enjoy the rest of it
i feel as able to comment without trying it as you do having not not tried it.
i was more intrigued by your evasion of the questions than the subject.
(sorry for being flippant before, but my local message board is dead and i was bored!)

The double negative nearly got me!
Since I'm obviously "off topic" ...tell me which questions have not been answered to your satisfaction and I'll try!
Are you up for a ride?? New Year's day? Nothing better to clear the head!

"what benefits it has (
fox hunting) and whether you think those benefits outweigh the negative of causing distress to foxes."
i did anticipate a dressing down for my use of the dreaded double negative (a pet hate, along with abbreviations a la "lol" , and the use of "your" for "you`re" etc) however, i felt its` use was appropriate in this instance.
i think my punctuation is a little suspect however.
thank you for your very kind offer of a ride on new years day. i would love to accept but unfortunately i hope to either still be out revelling or at least nursing a gargantuan hangover.
ps and it`s a few years since i`ve ridden.

one last thing---what is "YABB"?

Benefits:
A fabulous sport - enjoyed by all classes
Fresh air
Develops riding skills
Keeps the foxes down - usually the weaker ones are caught, thus allowing the stronger ones to breed on
Yes - I enjoy the sport and since I believe that while gory, the end in reality is quick, the benefits do outweigh the negative aspects.
It also keeps the countryside alive in many ways by providing jobs and supporting some parts of the rural economy.
And of course, the old chestnut - tradition!
Sorry you wouldn't be able to join us! If yo care to - come along to Blisworth and see the traditions at their best! A spectacle to behold.
No idea what a Yabb is -any relation to a yeti?

Can't remember where it came up but YaBB is this Bulletin Board. Every time you reply to a message you move up slightly in the YaBB ranking, you start as a Novice then by about 10 replies you become a full member. Eventually you can become a YaBB God, at which point an email is automatically sent to your Doctor suggesting that you ' Get out more'.
Thanks for all of the replies.

The only part of foxhunting I'm concerned about is the method of depatch of the fox. And why on earth couldn't "they" have decided to licence hunters, horses and dogs (sorry hounds) for hunting. Easy to check up on. Hounds and horses can be chipped. After a time issue no more licences.

I am surprised that nobody has commented on this particular subject given the historical association with the village.
Has anybody got any strong views on whether fox hunting should be banned or not?
Of course it should not be banned. This village exists because of hunting. It has been part of the existence here seen Saxon times. Remember the Art - some of the nations greatest paintings show the Pytchley Hunt and its followers. Has the village become ihabited with those who just want to live here and yet deny its history! Remember those who live in the parish and work at the furtherest distance pollute the environment with their long distance exhaust fumes.
The justapostion of the fast-food outlets on the outskirts of Kettering and sadly in the parish of Pytchley and the efect to the parish. The route from these to the edge of the parish show the mentality of those who buy, eat and then throw away the debris!
The fly-tipping has got out of bounds All the farms in the district suffer its gateways dumped with litter; be it old bedsteads; old fridges and all other household detritus.
